JOB OPPORTUNITIES:
Any responsible female that is interested in earning money in the fall of 2013 by babysitting after school, please sign up on the sheet on the Guidance door or see Ms. Birchfield.  You would be expected to help them with their homework and give them a snack.  This is for a 6 year old boy and a 9 year old girl on Lee Street, Monday - Friday from 3:15pm-5:15pm.

Virginia Tech's Let's Talk Public Health Youth Leadership Conference - available to upcoming Juniors & Seniors - July 25-28, 2013
This conference is meant to introduce rising high school juniors and seniors to the field of public health and offer them insights into related educational and career opportunities.  Conference participants will have the opportunity to learn from public health professionsals and gain 3experience through "hands-on" public health-related activities.  Topics covered will include obesity, social determinants of health, bioterrorism and emerging infectious diseases.  Transportation will be provided to participants.  Scholarships are available for students who demonstrate financial need.  Applications, along with additional information including a You Tube video of last year's conference, are available at www.vayouth.mph.vetmed.vt.edu
 
BHC MED CAMP - Basic Camp dates: June 9-15 or June 23-29  Advance Camp date: July 21-27
Baptist Health Corbin is offering an exciting summer camp for pre-med students.  high school students that are in their sophomore, junior or senior year will be eligible for entry into the program.  Participation in BHC Med Camp broadens students' understanding of health care as well as introducing them to the challenges that confront our nation's health care system today.  We use a broad curriculum that incorporates lectures, department observations and hands-on-exercises.  Activities are structured and supervised, while being both educational and enjoyable.  Applications are available at: BaptistHealthCorbin.com.  For more information contact Debbie Hardin at (606)682-3725 or by email at: bremarketing@bhsi.com
 
American Red Cross BloodStock Summer Scholarship Challenge - $1,000 & $2,000 - Ages 16-24 - May 1st-August 31st

The student must be between the ages of 16-24 on the day of the blood drive to be eligible to serve as a blood drive coordinator. The student must be selected as a blood drive coordinator through the online application process. The blood drive coordinator must host one blood drive scheduled between May 1 – August 31, 2013 within the American Red Cross Southeast Division. The blood drive minimum projection is 35 units or 50 units. The blood drive may not take place at a school during the school day during the academic year. The student blood drive coordinator may not adopt a regularly scheduled or routine blood drive. However, the student may adopt an existing summer or winter BloodStock sponsor. The blood drive may have no more than one blood drive coordinator. The blood drive coordinator must attend a face-to-face planning and recruitment meeting(s) and stay in close contact with the American Red Cross representative. The blood drive coordinator will identify a blood drive date, location and goal with the help of the American Red Cross Red Cross representative. The blood drive coordinator will recruit volunteers to assist at the blood drive. The blood drive coordinator must be present at the blood drive to ensure its success. The blood drive coordinator and recruitment team must recruit and schedule volunteer blood donors from friends, family, community members and donor lists provided by the Red Cross. In order for the blood drive coordinator to be eligible for the scholarship drawing, the blood drive must achieve 100% of projected goal and meet the *minimum collection goal requirement. Blood drive coordinator is eligible to win one scholarship.

*$1,000 scholarship qualification – Blood drive must collect a minimum of 35 productive units of blood.

* $2,000 scholarship qualification – Blood drive must collect a minimum of 50 units of blood.

In order for the blood drive coordinator to receive a letter of recommendation and a gift card, the blood drive must achieve a minimum of 100% of the blood drive goal. American Red Cross employees are not eligible. West Point Tri-Rivers Chamber of Commerce Community Service Scholarship - 4 $600 scholarships - Deadline: May 20, 2013
One senior from each surrounding school district will win.  You will need to complete the application, attach a resume, and in 250 words or less write "What Community Service Activity has had the biggest impact on you?"  You will need to be pursuing a higher education with a 2.0 GPA or higher.  You may see Ms. Birchfield for an application and criteria or visit their website at: www.westpointvachamber.com
 
Leo C. Wagner, Jr. Memorial Community Service Scholarship - $500 - Deadline: May 31, 2013
The Rotary Club of West Point is sponsoring this scholarship.  Applicants will need 50 hours of volunteer community service contributed during the past 12 months and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.  You will need to provide an essay (500 words maximum) on, "What does the Rotary motto, "Service above self" mean to you?"  See Ms. Birchfield for an application.
